THE MAJESTIC NORTHEAST WHEELS
Embark on a soul-stirring journey through the heart of the Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, a land where time seems to stand still amidst towering limestone karsts and emerald-green valleys. This 4-day Cao Bang Bike Tour is meticulously designed for adventure seekers who crave more than just a sightseeing trip; it is a deep dive into the rugged beauty and vibrant ethnic tapestry of Northern Vietnam.
Starting from the bustling streets of Hanoi, we transport you to the serene highlands where the air is crisp and the landscapes are legendary. Over four days, you will pedal along winding frontier roads, navigate hidden valley paths, and cross crystalline streams. You won't just see the scenery—you will feel the rhythm of life in the Phia Thap incense-making village, witness the agricultural heritage of Trung Khanh, and stand in awe before the thunderous Ban Gioc Waterfall, the largest border waterfall in Asia.
This tour is a perfect blend of physical challenge and cultural immersion. We prioritize "off-the-beaten-path" routes that avoid heavy traffic, allowing you to connect with the local Nung and Tay communities. Whether you are conquering gentle slopes or gliding through limestone corridors, every turn offers a postcard-perfect view. Tour Plan
The journey begins. At 8:30 AM, your adventure kicks off as our team meets you in the heart of Hanoi. We leave the urban sprawl behind, transitioning into the winding mountain passes that lead to the legendary Northeast. The drive itself is a spectacle, but the real magic begins mid-afternoon as we arrive at our traditional stilt-house homestay.
-
Route: Hanoi – Cao Bang City – Phia Thap Village
-
Cycling Distance: ~$15\text{ km}$ (Warm-up ride)
-
Road Condition: Wide dirt roads, smooth village paths, and gentle rolling terrain.
Highlights of the day: After checking in, we mount our bikes for a short "warm-up" ride to stretch the legs. We follow wide dirt tracks that wind through towering limestone peaks to reach a hidden paper-making village. Here, you won't just watch; you will roll up your sleeves and craft your own paper using techniques passed down through generations of Nung ethnic craftsmen. As the sun begins to set, casting a golden glow over the valley, we take a leisurely ride back to Phia Thap to enjoy a feast of local organic vegetables and roasted meats.
Had the best time in Cao Bang with Golden Cycling Tours and his team. We explored the Dong Nguom Ngao Caves and the Ban Gioc Waterfalls. We had great food and many stops along the way. Would definitely recommend!
