Overview
Embark on a soul-stirring 13-day cycling expedition that connects two of Southeast Asia’s most iconic cultural hubs: the spiritual sanctuary of Luang Prabang in Laos and the bustling, historic capital of Hanoi in Vietnam. This journey is crafted for the intrepid cyclist who seeks to conquer high-altitude passes, witness raw natural beauty, and engage deeply with the diverse ethnic minority groups of the Northern Indochinese highlands.
Your adventure begins amidst the golden temples of Luang Prabang, quickly transitioning into the dramatic limestone karst landscapes of Nong Khiaw and the remote river valleys of Muang Khua. Pedaling along the pristine Nam Ou River, you will experience the untouched serenity of Northern Laos before reaching the Tay Trang border. As you cross into Vietnam, the scenery shifts to the heroic valley of Dien Bien Phu, where history and nature converge.
The Vietnamese leg of the tour is a masterclass in mountain cycling. You will navigate the winding roads along the Da River, witness the dramatic cliffs of Muong Lay, and conquer the legendary O Quy Ho Pass—the longest and most spectacular mountain pass in Vietnam—to reach the mist-shrouded town of Sapa. Beyond the peaks, you will delve into the emerald terraced rice fields of the Muong Hoa Valley, staying in ethnic villages before descending through the tranquil landscapes of Luc Yen and Thac Ba Lake. This 13-day odyssey concludes in the heart of Hanoi, leaving you with the immense pride of having traversed one of the most challenging and beautiful overland routes in Asia.

Tour Plan
8:30 AM Pick up from your hotel in Luang Prabang - We’ll cycle via the UXO Education Centre to get an incredible insight into the horrific bombings endured by the Lao people and the effect it still has today. The UXO centre is an amazing NGO that does fantastic work, yet just scratches the surface of this little known issue. Some 35km out of Luang Prabang is Nong Khuay Village. A very remote community, home to 80 families of both Hmong and Khummu origin. Fairtrek initiative is working extensively within the village to create new streams of revenue to boost the village economy through tourism. We’ll have the opportunity to spend time with the local families and engage in some traditional handicraft masterclasses. We will stay the night with the community and experience real village life and eat with our new host families.
