Known as the "Truong Son Strategic Supply Route" in Vietnam, the Ho Chi Minh route was a complex network of trails spanning mountains and jungles that connected North Vietnam to its allies in South Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos. It functioned as the main thoroughfare for transporting personnel, equipment, and supplies during the Vietnam War. It was an essential route connecting a split country, spanning more than twelve thousand kilometers of roads and trails across some of the most difficult terrain on earth.
The road system connected Mu Gia Pass in the north with South Vietnam at the northwest corner of Plei Trap Valley, sometimes known as the "Valley of Tears," and continued southward along Laos' heavily forested western slopes. Nearly as many part-time farmers as 300,000 full-time laborers maintained it in good condition; their remains can be found in the 72 Vietnamese military cemeteries, which bear witness to the trail's horrific human cost.
When Viet Minh bands walked the same routes during World War II, the trail served as a means of communication. The footpaths were a highly planned conduit for personnel and supplies to infiltrate during the fight against the United States. This maze of roads and trails remained the core of the North Vietnamese logistic system throughout the war, despite their limited use of pipelines and waterways. As noted by military historian John Prados, "only overland was it possible for men and women to head South and join in combat," while guns, ammunition, and supplies could be brought south by boat.
Our knowledgeable cycling team has thoroughly examined and planned a 21-day bicycle vacation from Hanoi to Pleiku, crossing the border into Cambodia. This trip is ideal for individuals seeking historical and cultural attractions as well as outdoor pursuits.
We will begin our 21-day Ho Chi Minh Trail Bicycle Holiday in Hanoi and ride the old Hochiminh Trail to Mai Chau and Pu Luong. From there, we will continue on the recently upgraded asphalt route that leads to south Vietnam.
By taking part in this journey, motorcyclists will have the chance to see famous historical treasures in each location, as well as breathtaking vistas and captivating sceneries in Mai Chau, Pu Luong, the Phong Nha natural heritage site, luscious coffee farms, and hill tribe communities.

Enjoyed a fantastic 21day Ho Chi Minh Trail cycling and touring adventure from Hanoi to Dalat/HCMC with Golden Cycling Tours. (21days cycling) Our guide Mr Hung was excellent - friendly, professional, and calm and we really appreciated the way in which the tour was customized along the way, with cycling length and timeframes adapted to suit. (most days circa 60 - 70km) Equally everything appeared to run to run very smoothly and to plan which was very impressive. The mix of terrain, scenery, sights, and food! was awesome and gave us a great snap shot of this incredible country. A big thank you to Golden Cycling Tours for a wonderful experience (first international trip post pandemic and one to remember!)

Excellent tour and caring team! The team has been nothing but amazing. Their understanding of my needs for a custom standalone tour, the quality of the path chosen to the electric bike and the support during it and after has been spectacular. I can only recommend them to anyone willing to experience the center of Golden Cycling Tours! Thanks a lot!
