Overview

By the 1970s, the Vietnamese had already endured more than their fair share of unwanted foreign interference. So, when China crossed their northern border in 1979 without invitation, a war-weary nation wasted no time in defending its sovereignty. The North Vietnamese Army, at that time, was perhaps more aware than any other military force of the critical importance of keeping supply lines open. In February 1979, military engineers began constructing a strategic supply route along the northernmost border, which came to be known as 2/79.

Highlights

"QL279: The Road to Resilience"

Join us on a captivating cycling adventure along QL279, a historic and strategic route that traces Vietnam’s northern border. This scenic mountain road, built in 1979 for military supply lines, offers a unique journey through breathtaking landscapes and deep-rooted history. Known as 2/79, it remains a vital connection, seldom used by vehicles but kept in perfect condition due to its importance.

As you pedal through this remote path, you’ll experience not only the stunning vistas of lush mountains and peaceful valleys but also the resilience and spirit of the Vietnamese people. This ride is a tribute to endurance, history, and the incredible landscapes that define the heart of Vietnam. Whether you’re a seasoned cyclist or a history enthusiast, this challenge promises an unforgettable journey through both nature and the past. Let’s ride the road less traveled, where every turn tells a story.

Much like the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail along the Laos border, QL279 is a mountain road—rarely traveled by motorized vehicles, yet always maintained in prime condition due to its strategic importance.

A well-preserved rural road winding through stunning mountain vistas, devoid of traffic, and connecting one end of the country to the other—what more could a cyclist desire?
