Overview
THE LEGENDARY CROSS-COUNTRY SAGA
Are you ready to pedal through the pages of history? Our "Riding the 2.79" expedition is not merely a cycling tour; it is a 15-day visceral odyssey that traverses the most strategic and stunning frontier road in Indochina. Named to commemorate the historical events of February 1979, Route 279 spans the entire northern arc of Vietnam, serving as a silent witness to the nation’s resilience. This journey is a masterclass in endurance, connecting the rugged Northwest peaks with the mystical Northeast karst landscapes.
Over two weeks, you will navigate a world of breathtaking contrasts. You will climb the "Four Great Passes" including the legendary Khau Pha and O Quy Ho, standing at the "Heaven’s Gate" with the mighty Fansipan as your backdrop. From the emerald rice terraces of Mu Cang Chai—a national heritage site—to the serene, primeval waters of Ba Be Lake, every mile reveals a new story.
This is an immersion into the kaleidoscope of ethnic Vietnam. You will share meals with the Black Thai, Flower H’mong, and Tay people, staying in traditional stilt houses that have sheltered generations. You will witness the sunrise over the Bac Son Valley and cycle through the "Cloud Hunter" territory of the highlands. With Golden Cycling Tours, you are supported by a professional team, elite mountain bikes, and a deep passion for storytelling. Join us on the 2.79—where the road is long, the climbs are epic, and the history is alive.
