Overview
A Tale of Two States: From Royal Palaces to Tropical Backwaters
Prepare for a trans-state odyssey that traverses the very spine of Southern India. Our South India Cycling Tour (Karnataka - Kerala) is a 13-day expedition that connects two of India's most culturally distinct and ecologically diverse regions. This is not just a cycling trip; it is a journey through the "Western Ghats," a UNESCO World Heritage mountain range older than the Himalayas, teeming with wildlife, waterfalls, and endless greenery.
Your adventure begins in the royal heritage of Karnataka. After exploring the opulent Mysore Palace and its vibrant markets, we saddle up and ascend into the misty hills of Coorg (Kodagu), often called the "Scotland of India." Here, the air is thick with the aroma of roasting coffee beans. You will pedal through canopy-shaded roads flanked by pepper vines and silver oak trees, challenging your legs on scenic climbs that reward you with breathtaking panoramic views.
Crossing the border into Kerala, the landscape shifts from the rugged coffee estates to the manicured emerald carpets of tea plantations in Wayanad. This region is a biodiversity hotspot, where the road winds through protected forests that are home to wild elephants and deer. The ride is a perfect mix of physical challenge and pure exhilaration, featuring some of the most famous downhill stretches in India that drop from the cool mountains to the tropical plains.
But the journey is as much about culture as it is about cycling. You will stay in colonial plantation bungalows, eco-resorts hidden in the jungle, and homestays that offer authentic home-cooked cuisine—from the spicy Pandhi Curry of Coorg to the coconut-infused Stew and Appam of Kerala.
The grand finale takes you to the coast. You will trade your bike for a traditional houseboat to cruise the serene Alleppey Backwaters, watching life unfold along the canals. Ending in the colonial port town of Fort Kochi, this 13-day tour captures the essence of the South: the warmth of its people, the richness of its history, and the untamed beauty of its nature.
