Itinerary
Experience the heart of Laos on a 14-day cycling adventure from Luang Prabang to the southern islands. Pedal through ancient cities, lush plateaus, and stunning landscapes. Discover hidden waterfalls, meet local tribes, and embrace the tranquil beauty of the Mekong.
Arrive at the airport in a small town of Northern Laos Luang Prabang. After immigration formalities, meets a local guide and transfer to hotel (about 15 minutes). After check in hotel in town, free to relax or explore town before dinner and visit night market.
- Luangprabang is the oldest city in Laos, and before the 16th century it was the capital city of the land of million elephants (Laos). The town is a beautifully preserved and in 1995 it was added to UNESCO`s World heritage list.
- Important note: Verify your passport is valid for at least six months after your date of exit from Laos. You may not be permitted to get in Laos with less than 6 months expiration on your passport

Today, explore the sublime treasures of Luang Prabang. Rising at dawn to view traditional alms procession of monks passing slowly through town, visit morning market to see local people bring their products sell on the street from early morning until 10 AM. Get back to hotel for breakfast
After breakfast, we drive to Kuangsi waterfall through villages, see the local people work in the rice fields and local activities, enjoying swimming at the waterfall then we have lunch at the local restaurant. After swimming and lunch we drive back to the town. In late afternoon transfer to Lao – China train station, heading to Vientiane capital, after 2 hours of high speed train and check in hotel is free to explore town or enjoy view by Mekong River look at Thailand.
- Vientiane has been the capital of Laos since 1560, when the country was divided into three kingdoms, then lost its independence after the Siamese (Thai) invasion in late 18th century. Vientiane remained empty until the end of the 19th century. It began to be resettled again little by little.

After breakfast, we drive out of town, visit Buddha Park, also known as Xieng Khuan (as well as other variations of the spelling), is a sculpture park located 25 km southeast from Vientiane, Laos in a meadow by the Mekong River. Although it is not a temple (Wat), the park may be referred to as Wat Xieng Khuan, since it contains numerous religious images. The park contains over 200 Hindu and Buddhist statues. After visit Buddha Park we start riding further along Mekong River look at Thailand, we meet the junction to the main road we keep riding on main road to national park known as Nampien Yorapa, https://nampienyorlapa.com/ we have lunch at the restaurant at the park, after enjoying the park and do activities: zip line, canopy walk, walk to waterfall (not include tour price) we transfer the rest to our destination of Palsan
- The provincial capital of Bolikhamsai is Paksan, locates in the middle part of the country a blip of a town that sits at the confluence of the Nam San and Mekong rivers almost opposite the small Thai town of Bueng Kan, visible across the river. The provincial capital is a sleepy transportation hub, mostly just used as a place to stay before heading along the back road to Phonsavan or across the border into Thailand.

After breakfast we start riding from our hotel, we turn left from main road No. 13 south head east in the direction to Vietnam along the main road in remote area, on the way we’ll pass a small town of Muang Bolikhan and villages almost they are Lao low landers. Picnic lunch will be brought from restaurant in Paksan and we will find the good place when we are hungry.

Breakfast at local restaurant and prepare by our guide, after breakfast we ride from our guesthouse head south it is an easy ride on undulating road surrounded by rice paddy fields and lime stone mountains on two side, after 30 km, we start climbing up and down on short hill through height mountains of two sides of the road, we pass only few villages in this part, lunch is prepared by our guide and driver by the road when you are hungry. After 25 km on climbing up and down hills we climb up for 1 km to the top of 756 m above sea level, this is the highest point on this road, after short stop the road is slightly down hills and a little bit short up hills 47 km to our destination of Viengthong district.

After breakfast prepare by your guide we cycle from your guesthouse head south to Laksao (kilometer 20th), riding on gentle road and there are some short climb surrounded by beautiful scenery of mountains. After 50 km riding through the country side villages, we meet the main road from Vietnamese border; we turn left on direction to Vietnam. Lunch is prepared by your guide under the tree by the road, from the junction we ride on the gentle road surrounded by beautiful rice paddy fields and lime stone mountains along the way to our destination of Laksao district where we overnight. it is only 35 km to Vietnamese border

After breakfast we cycle from hotel head south through Nakai-Namtern protected area. Today is easy day, we ride on undulating road, the road is slightly up and down hills, you can stop for photo at the nice view point on higher elevation and after 35 km we will see small lake of the Namteun hydro power dam. We stop for lunch at the local restaurant by the lake, after lunch we keep riding on gentle up and down hill road with beautiful mountains and farms alongside of the road. We reach the small town of Nakai on top of plateau by the hydro power dam.

Today is easy and beautiful day. After breakfast at the guesthouse prepare by our guide, we start cycle from our guesthouse, as Nakai district locates on Nakai plateau, when we ride out of town the road is downhill to the hydro power dam, you can stop for photo along the way at the view point, the road today is surrounded my limestone mountains and almost flat all the way to our destination of Thakhek. We stop for lunch at Tha Falang blue lagoon, after relax at the lagoon we ride on flat road to the town, we check in hotel and relax or enjoy view with Beer Lao by Mekong River look at Thailand
When Lao was a colony of French in 1945, French governor based in Thakhek and Lao national frond (became Lao communist party later) fought against the French but they lost the war and escape to Thailand, a lot of Local people included children were kill by French. After breakfast we transfer by private van along the road No. 13 south head to Pakse in southern Laos, we stop for lunch in Pakse, after lunch we cycle the rest 40 km to Champasak on the way stop at the temple on top of mountain by the Mekong River before riding to Vat Phou. Vat Phou is a ruined Khmer-Hindu temple complex in southern Laos and one of the oldest places of worship in Southeast Asia. It is at the base of mount Phou Khao, some 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from the Mekong in Champasak province.
There was a sanctuary on the site, center on a sacred spring and an offering place for a mighty tutelary sprit dating back to pre-historic times. The first megalithic stone structures had been built probably as early as the second century, consisting of two stone cells, a carving of a crocodile, serpent stairs, and several offering platforms. One of the first pre-Angkor brick buildings onsite was erected in the early 7th century and became the focus of all consequent building activities. After breakfast at local guesthouse preparing by your guide we cycle from guesthouse along the country side, we stop on the way to visit villages and talk to local people, after 23 km cycle on main land, we cross Mekong River by local ferry to Khong Island, the biggest Island of four thousand Island, we cycle through the Island and cross local ferry to Don Som Island, we cycle on dirt road through the Island passing villages and rice fields exploring local life style on the Island, we finally reach the south edge of Don Som Island, we cross by local ferry to Don Det Island where we overnight. after check in hotel on the Island is free to relax or enjoy Beer Lao at the bank of Mekong look at the other Islands or explore the Island by riding along the old French rail way and cross the rail way bridge to Don Khon Island visit Liphy waterfall.
The Mekong sweeps down towards the Cambodian border. On the eastern border the land rises towards the Anna mite chain through dense jungle, sparsely populated by remote tribes. The Ho Chi Minh trail makes its way down through the forest, littered with the skeletons of trucks and still contaminated with unexploded bombs.
Downstream Khong island (four thousand islands), once a French outpost, contains dilapidated colonial houses from the 1920, Khong Island became an important trading point at the beginning of this century and has the distinction of having the only railway line in the country. South of Khong Island the Mekong River almost loses itself among the channels that created thousands of tiny islands in its widest section, before becoming increasingly agitated. Finally at Khone Island, it hurtles over 15 km of falls and rapids to spectacular effect. Along this stretch at Phapeng water fall one arm of the river, suddenly crashes down a 15-metre drop

An easy start to the day as we transfer back on the way we come for almost 2 hours to begin our journey into coffee growing area of Laos, the Bolaven plateau. We head north to Pakse before starting to climb up into the temperate coffee growing area renowned for its Arabica and Robusta beans. These beans fetch some of the highest coffee prices in the world. The road undulates but has a definite upward feeling. As we climb, we see coffee everywhere as the plantations converge on the side of the road. We stop for lunch at at the wonderful Tad Fane resort, which provides a stunning backdrop and the very impressive Tad Fane fall, if you are feeling energetic you can take zip line cross from this side to other side.
