Overview
Ride to the Roof of the World: A Journey into "Little Tibet"
Prepare for the ride of a lifetime. The Cycling in Spiti Valley Tour (10 Days) is not just a holiday; it is a test of grit, endurance, and spirit. Located in the remote trans-Himalayan region of Himachal Pradesh, Spiti Valley is often called "The Middle Land"—a rugged gateway between India and Tibet. This landscape is stark, barren, and hauntingly beautiful, characterized by massive brown mountains, deep gorges, and brilliant blue skies that feel close enough to touch.
Your expedition begins in the evergreen hill station of Manali. After acclimatizing to the altitude, we cross the engineering marvel of the Atal Tunnel or the historic Rohtang Pass, leaving the greenery behind to enter the arid grandeur of the Lahaul and Spiti valleys. The roads here are legendary among adventure cyclists—a mix of tarmac, gravel, and rocky trails that demand full concentration.
The route takes you over the mighty Kunzum Pass (4,590m), where you will pay respects at the stupas before descending into the Spiti Valley. As you pedal towards Kaza, the headquarters of the valley, you will encounter a culture frozen in time. We explore ancient monasteries like Key Gompa, perched precariously on a hill like a fortress, and Tabo Monastery, known as the "Ajanta of the Himalayas," which preserves Buddhist art dating back over a millennium.
But the challenge yields unique rewards. You will cycle to Hikkim to send a postcard from the World's Highest Post Office, visit Komic (one of the highest motorable villages), and hunt for fossils in the prehistoric seabed of Langza. The tour concludes with a magical night of camping at Chandratal Lake (The Moon Lake), a crescent-shaped alpine lake that changes color throughout the day.
This 10-day tour is designed for experienced cyclists and fitness enthusiasts. Dealing with thin air and rough terrain requires determination, but with our fully equipped support vehicles, oxygen supplies, and expert mountain guides, you are in safe hands. Join us to conquer the cold desert.
