Overview
A Pilgrimage on Pedals: Following the Sacred River to its Snowy Source
Welcome to Garhwal, the rugged western wing of the Uttarakhand Himalayas, a land where mythology and mountains are inextricably linked. Our Cycling in Garhwal Himalayas (16 Days) tour is not just an adventure; it is a "Yatra" (pilgrimage) on two wheels. This expedition takes you along the historic Char Dham route, tracing the holy Bhagirathi River upstream to its glacial origin at Gangotri, before descending to the spiritual fervor of Rishikesh.
The journey begins in the colonial hill station of Mussoorie, known as the "Queen of Hills." From here, we ride along the scenic ridges of Dhanaulti and Chamba, offering panoramic views of the Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini peaks. As we descend into the valley, the landscape is dominated by the massive Tehri Dam, an engineering marvel that holds back a turquoise reservoir the size of a sea.
The heart of the expedition lies in the ascent towards Gangotri. We cycle through the picturesque Harsil Valley, often compared to Switzerland for its apple orchards, cedar forests, and wooden houses. Reaching Gangotri (3,100m), the seat of the Goddess Ganga, is a moment of profound achievement. Here, you will witness the raw power of the river thundering down from the Gaumukh glacier.
The return journey is a thrilling descent, following the river as it swells and widens. We ride through Uttarkashi, the "Kashi of the North," and eventually roll into Rishikesh, the Yoga Capital of the World. The tour concludes with the mesmerizing Ganga Aarti ceremony and a visit to the holy city of Haridwar.
This 16-day tour offers a deep dive into the culture of the mountain people (Garhwalis), the lives of the Sadhus (holy men), and the raw beauty of the Himalayas. It is a challenging ride with significant elevation gains, designed for those who seek to connect with the spiritual soul of India through the rhythm of cycling.
