Overview
A BREATH OF FRESH AIR IN HANOI’S BACKYARD
Are you looking to escape the relentless roar of motorbikes and the urban hustle of the Old Quarter without traveling for hours? Our Hanoi Countryside Bicycle Trip Half Day is the perfect solution. Within just a few kilometers of the city center lies a world of profound tranquility—a landscape of emerald-green rice paddies, ancient banyan trees, and timeless villages that have remained largely unchanged for generations. This tour is designed to give you a concentrated dose of authentic Vietnamese rural life in just 4 to 5 hours.
As we pedal away from the city’s concrete heart, you will feel the air turn cooler and the pace of life slow down. Our route takes you across the historic bridges and onto the fertile alluvial plains of the Red River Delta. Here, the narrow concrete lanes give way to dirt paths that wind through vegetable gardens and fruit orchards. You will see farmers tending to their crops with traditional methods, water buffaloes grazing by the canals, and friendly children waving from their doorsteps.
This half-day adventure is an invitation to witness the "real" Vietnam that exists in the shadows of the skyscrapers. We don't just ride past the scenery; we immerse you in it. You will visit local family homes, explore ancient communal houses that serve as the spiritual heart of the villages, and learn about the intricate irrigation systems that have sustained this land for millennia. Whether you are an early bird catching the morning mist or a sunset seeker enjoying the golden hour, this cycling trip provides a refreshing and soul-stirring perspective on Hanoi's beautiful backyard.

Itinerary
Start your day with a warm welcome at our garage, located near the Old Quarter of Hanoi. Receive a briefing from your tour guide about the tour and bikes.
Then, pedal through the Long Bien Bride, following small alleys to the Duong River’s bank. Take a local boat ferry to cross the river to its left bank. Ride a bike along the dike, passing through villages, traditional houses, pagodas, temples, and local markets.
Pedal up to a dike of the Red River and cross two villages outside of the dike. Visit a local house in traditional style and chat with the villagers to learn more about their lives and work. Continue cycling along the dike along the Red River to the confluence of two rivers.
Stop under an old tree by the river for drinks, snacks, and photos. Head back to the ferry and cross the Duong River again. Stop by a local temple, which is located by the Red River. If you’re lucky, you may have the chance to see a unique Vietnamese ceremony called “Len Dong” or “Going into a trance.”
Have a drink with a local family to learn more about their lives and the changes that have taken place in the village and surrounding area. Take a taxi or car back to your hotel.

Notes
This tour is flexible, so if you are in good shape, and if you are interested in spending most of the time for riding (not visiting houses & temple), the guide can lead you to Co Loa – the ancient citadel to visit the vestige of the citadel, temples, beautiful back roads. Riding around villages then ride back to the dike of the Red river by different ways.
Excellent experience! I got to see Hanoi in a new light, thanks to the wonderful guide and the smooth cycling tour. This is a great way to explore the city while getting some exercise.
