Overview

A BREATH OF FRESH AIR IN HANOI’S BACKYARD

Are you looking to escape the relentless roar of motorbikes and the urban hustle of the Old Quarter without traveling for hours? Our Hanoi Countryside Bicycle Trip Half Day is the perfect solution. Within just a few kilometers of the city center lies a world of profound tranquility—a landscape of emerald-green rice paddies, ancient banyan trees, and timeless villages that have remained largely unchanged for generations. This tour is designed to give you a concentrated dose of authentic Vietnamese rural life in just 4 to 5 hours.

As we pedal away from the city’s concrete heart, you will feel the air turn cooler and the pace of life slow down. Our route takes you across the historic bridges and onto the fertile alluvial plains of the Red River Delta. Here, the narrow concrete lanes give way to dirt paths that wind through vegetable gardens and fruit orchards. You will see farmers tending to their crops with traditional methods, water buffaloes grazing by the canals, and friendly children waving from their doorsteps.

This half-day adventure is an invitation to witness the "real" Vietnam that exists in the shadows of the skyscrapers. We don't just ride past the scenery; we immerse you in it. You will visit local family homes, explore ancient communal houses that serve as the spiritual heart of the villages, and learn about the intricate irrigation systems that have sustained this land for millennia. Whether you are an early bird catching the morning mist or a sunset seeker enjoying the golden hour, this cycling trip provides a refreshing and soul-stirring perspective on Hanoi's beautiful backyard.

Tour Plan

Expand All

The half-day bike tour starts from our garage located on the outskirts of Hanoi, in one of the few villages that have managed to preserve their cultural essence and historical architecture amidst rapid urbanization. This village is renowned for its communal house, old houses, and ancestral worshiping houses, some of which have stood for hundreds of years.

As you pass through the village’s moss-covered gate and tread along the brick-paved road, you’ll enter a completely different realm—a serene, peaceful, and quaint space. The first stop, which is a must-see, is the impressive communal house, built back in 1653. This sacred place serves as the solemn setting for the village’s most significant events.

After a leisurely 15-minute stroll, you’ll reach our bike garage. Take a moment to check your bikes and enjoy a test ride. Once you set off, you’ll traverse narrow paved roads, passing through a bustling local market. It’s a delightful experience to leisurely walk your bike through the market, immersing yourself in the vibrant ambiance and observing the lively local activities.

You’ll mostly bike on back roads, crossing a river, and then reach the real countryside of Hanoi. You’ll bike for a few kilometers on the flat village lanes until you turn right, finding yourself in a peaceful area. No bike horns, crowds, or traffic jams here—just you and nature!

Keep biking on a gravel trail for about 2-3 kilometers before you cross the dike and find yourself in other rural hamlets. Take a break or explore for a bit.

After biking another 5 kilometers, you’ll arrive in a flower village, the oldest in the suburban area. The village was established about 10 years ago. The most popular flowers here are roses, chrysanthemums, gerberas, and lilies. They also grow a lot of vegetables.

Keep biking through flower fields, vegetable gardens, and rural hamlets for about 10-12 kilometers before making your final stop. The bike ride ends here at noon. You’ll be transferred back to your hotel. The Hanoi Countryside Bicycle Trip Half Day is complete..

Notes

There are about 25-30K in total. The bike ride is scheduled to be finished at noon. But you can finish the trip early if you like (private trip).
